This is a field notes paper: a structured conceptual contribution grounded in direct practitioner observation, prior to the formal development of a working paper. It is the opening article of a series on AI Integrity Management as an emerging enterprise discipline, produced by the AI Integrity Management working group at The Integral Management Society — a Swiss non-profit association bringing together senior specialists from adaptive systems, complex systems, artificial intelligence, mission-critical operations and governance. The operational and research arm of the working group is Tegrity.AI.
This series is addressed to enterprise architects, CIOs, CDOs, AI governance leads, risk and compliance officers, and transformation executives who are navigating the practical challenge of deploying AI systems that remain reliable, controllable and aligned under real operational conditions.

In September 2024, Hamilton Mann argued in Forbes that “artificial integrity”—not just artificial intelligence—was becoming the true frontier of the field. By early 2026, this thesis has only grown stronger. As AI systems evolve from simple assistants to autonomous agents, the big question is no longer just what they can do. Instead, we must ask under what conditions we can trust them to act, decide, or even refuse tasks in ways that align with human and organizational goals.
Currently, the industry uses a confusing alphabet soup of terms to describe this: trustworthy AI, responsible AI, AI safety, XAI, and human oversight. For example, the European Commission’s framework groups together concepts like technical robustness, transparency, and societal well-being, while NIST organizes the field around risk management and lifecycle governance. Taken separately, these are different lenses, but together, they point to a single operational need. We need AI systems that do more than ace benchmarks; they must remain legible, robust, and dependable in the real world. That is what we mean by AI Integrity.
How the Industry is Converging

AI Integrity is not a rejection of existing terms, but rather an umbrella concept that brings them together. We can see this convergence happening across several major initiatives today:
- NIST frames AI trustworthiness as a continuous lifecycle issue, moving beyond one-time compliance to practical risk management for systems under real organizational constraints.
- The UK AI Safety Institute focuses on preventing unexpected «surprises» from rapid AI advancements through foundational research and systemic evaluations.
- IBM Research highlights that traditional explainability is no longer enough for agentic systems that use tools and trigger real-world consequences, making it a core integrity issue.
- The OECD AI Incidents Monitor tracks how AI systems fail or drift in real contexts, proving that AI integrity is already a live operational problem rather than a future theory.
- The AI for Good ecosystem emphasizes making autonomous systems reliable and interoperable in high-stakes environments where coordination truly matters.
Closing the Execution Gap
While the industry is clearly moving toward AI Integrity, a massive execution gap remains. Many organizations know they need governance, model monitoring, and policy controls, but they still treat these as fragmented workstreams. In practice, the market artificially separates requirements that are actually tightly linked, such as safety, resilience, compliance, and operational trust.
This category matters now more than ever. Once AI is embedded into logistics, healthcare, finance, and enterprise operations, integrity stops being a philosophical nice-to-have and becomes a strict engineering requirement. Errors are no longer just wrong text on a screen; they become unsafe actions, brittle escalations, or governance failures. Ultimately, AI Integrity will become to AI what cybersecurity became to software: an essential, cross-cutting condition for serious deployment in a messy reality.
The Tegrity.AI Path
Tegrity.AI is a Cross Domain Regime Awareness Framework for Systemic Integrity hosted by The Integral Management Society initially created by a group of field engineers and researchers. Their AI Integrity trajectory began in NOKIA R&D Systems Engineering and from 2005 on different jurisdictions, working on mission-critical logistics, industrial operations, fleet control, supply chains, operational intelligence, explainable decision systems and AI-enabled control environments.

Somehow, they have field experience working worked on integrity-related problems long before the term itself became common: explainability, governance, escalation logic, mission priorities, human override, anomaly detection, compliance, GRC, regime change detection and resilience under changing conditions.
From the beginning, one of their recurring concerns was ensuring that intelligence systems — whether expert systems, business intelligence environments, operational dashboards or decision-support platforms — provided information that was complete, reliable and operationally trustworthy.

As early as 2010, they created an second party certification seal called “Integral Information” to communicate that principle to clients. The idea was not simply data quality in the narrow sense, but confidence that the information, logic, alerts and recommendations generated by a system could be trusted in real operational environments. In retrospect, that work can be seen as an early precursor of what is now increasingly discussed under the broader concept of AI Integrity.
